The Presidency announced President Luis Abinader will travel to Washington, D.C. this Wednesday, 14 September 2022 to meet with US Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday, 15 September. This will be a private meeting resulting from US President Joe Biden’s interest in the Caribbean.
President Abinader had already personally met US Vice President Harris on 9 June 2022 when both attended the 9th Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles, California to discuss food security, energy security and access to financing.
The Presidency says that on the agenda for the meeting with US Vice President is the Haitian issue.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at noon and conclude at 4pm.
At the end of the meeting, President Luis Abinader will participate in a special session of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) requested by Dominican Foreign Relations Minister Roberto Alvarez.
President Abinader then returns to the Dominican Republic before traveling to the USA to attend the 77th Assembly of the United Nations (UN) in New York City that is ongoing from 13-27 September 2022.
