President Luis Abinader appointed Dr. Luisa Ysabel Ovando de Sanchez as the new executive president of the National Council for Children and Adolescents (Conani). Dr. Ovando is a gastroenterologist who has presided the Dominican Society of Gastroenterology. She had been acting as director of social services at the National District city government at the time of the appointment.
Conani has been making headlines after its past executive president, Ana Cecilia Morum Solano, resigned on 30 July 2022. She had been appointed to the position in October 2021.
This September 2022, a 12-year old “fell” from the fourth floor roof of the Conani home at the Expreso V Centenario, and eight teenagers escaped from the same home.
