The Chamber of Accounts under Janel Ramirez has annulled 114 audits to government entities carried out during the past administration, Diario Libre reports on 27 September 2022.
Senator Pedro Catrain (Samana-PRM) says that the accusations for sexual harassment to the Chamber of Accounts’s president seek to create the climate for the reinstatement of the previous adulterated audits. Catrain says the 114 audits were tampered with when Hugo Alvarez was the president of the Chamber of Accounts during the Danilo Medina administration. Alvarez is brother-in-law to former Administrative Minister of the Presidency, Jose Ramon Peralta, Diario Libre highlights.
Catrain says the opposition seeks to remove the new members of the Chamber of Accounts and reinstate the old audits. Several high-ranking government officers are investigated for corruption charges and the PEPCA, the anti-administrative corruption division of the Attorney General Office has prepared extensive files with evidence, much backed by the new audits.
The Public Prosecution Office investigates the case for sexual harassment. Janel Ramirez is accused of verbally abusing two employees of the Chamber of Accounts.
