ANJE pinpoints real training needs of companies

According to the latest report from the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE), 54% of the nation’s businesses are experiencing a lack of qualified personnel. Nearly 40% of these companies are spending hundreds of thousands of pesos to train their people.

The ANJE says that the vocational schools and universities need to produce more technicians, particularly in the STEM fields (science, technology engineering and mathematics) to meet the demands of modern industry. The group noted that only 3% of college students are in these fields, while 45% are enrolled in Education, Psychology, Medicine, Accounting, and Law.

As a result, some companies have had to resort to hiring foreign personnel.

An article in the Listin Diario notes that, for example, in the area of tourism, there is a need for experts in the handling of Food and Beverage and gastronomy, and in the free zones that work on medical equipment, there is a need for bio-technicians and specialists in bio-medicine.

Even the export sector needs people who are knowledgeable in areas such as agro-business, international logistics, and international business practices.

Free zones have a need for machine operators, production supervisors, and quality control people.

What is most in demand? According to the ANJE report, the areas of high demand and high salaries are all in technical areas: software engineers, programmers, digital marketing experts, data analysis, and cyber-security personnel.

There is an excess of persons prepared in Law, Accounting, Psychology and Business Administration, according to the ANJE.
