Public Health Minister Daniel Rivera says that protocols for early detection of cholera disease in risk areas have been enacted after the Haitian Ministry of Public Health announced on Sunday, 2 October 2022 the death of at least eight people in Haiti due to cholera.
Dr. Rivera recalled the outbreak of cholera in Haiti 10 years ago that was passed to the Dominican Republic. He said all the surveillance at the border is being activated, with all the controls in place to detect any diarrheal symptoms in people crossing the borders by land, sea or air.
Rivera explained that cholera in Haiti is a disease resulting from direct spreading in overcrowded circumstances.
