Greater Santo Domingo and Montecristi get 53% of public investment in 2023

The mega works for the Abinader Administration in 2023 are the Santiago Monorail (RD$15 billion), the Santiago cable car (RD$4.5 billion), the Monte Grande Dam (RD$2.08 billion) and Line 2C of the Santo Domingo Metro (RD$8.35 billion), reports Diario Libre when analyzing the 2023 National Budget recently submitted by the Presidency.

Greater Santo Domingo and Montecristi concentrate RD$63.26 billion of public investment in the National Budget Bill for 2023, submitted to the National Congress last week. San José de Ocoa, Monseñor Nouel and El Seibo, are on the other side of the list of provinces. This could change now that El Seibo was hard hit by Hurricane Fiona.

The general amount destined for public investment in 2023 increases by 17.7% compared to the 2022 National Budget, while the percentage compared to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) remains at 0.9% in both years.

Santo Domingo province gets 35.5% of the total for investment, the National District 11.5% and Montecristi gets 6.2%, most of which will be invested in new port terminal facilities.

Diario Libre says that RD$1.21 billion is budgeted to improve the Duarte Highway that crosses the country North to South.
