Miky Lopez family preventive custody measures reduced

The judge of the Second Court of Instruction of La Vega varied the coercive measures regarding Miguel Arturo López Florencio (Miky López) and two other alleged members of a drug trafficking and money laundering network. The judge ordered the removal of their electronic bracelets and instead ordered them to present themselves periodically to the court.

The court allowed the removing of the electronic bracelets to the accused José Miguel and Ada María Pilarte. These need to appear periodically before the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The prosecutor of La Vega, Aura Luz García is waiting to be notified of the decision to appeal to have the shackles placed again on the accused.

According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Miky López heads a criminal organization dedicated to international drug trafficking.

Along with López, his two sons, Miguel Arturo López Pilarte and José Miguel López Pilarte, as well as Ada María Pilarte and José Antonio Román, and the companies Auto Crédito Selecto, SRL, Servi Crédito Selecto, SRL, Agropecuaria Gloria Ivette, SRL, and Inmobiliaria Gloria Ivette, SRL, were accused.

According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office indictment, all these companies are front and shell companies, whose operations were disguised to place billions of pesos and dollars obtained from drug trafficking activities in the national financial system.

For his participation in this network, Miky López’s partner, the extradited Pablo Antonio Martínez Javier, convicted in the United States in 2009 for drug trafficking, remains at large.
