The general public had practically forgotten the case of the so-called “El Abusador” versus Santa Arias. Now the judge of the appeals court in San Cristobal reopens the case of Alexis Villalona (El Abusador) vs Santa Arias.
A video showing Villalona beating up Santa Arias who had fallen from her motorcycle and brushed against his vehicle on a Azua street on 31 December 2021 went viral for weeks. But eventually, it was known that Santa Arias chose not to continue with the case. She is suspect to have accepted a deal to no longer press charges proposed by the defense of Villalona.
But the judge of the judge of the Second Court of Appeals court in San Cristóbal has thought differently and both Villalona and Santa Arias are requested to return to court for the hearings on the case presented by Peravia prosecutor Angel Dario Tejeda Fabal. The judge admitted an appeals recourse placed by the prosecutor against the court resolution that granted freedom from prosecution to Villalona.
