Former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom was vacationing in a Dominican beach resort with his family when informed that incumbent Prime Minister Liz Truss had resigned.
The media then reported that Johnson cut short his holiday with family to return to London on Saturday, 22 October 2022. Johnson was seen at Gatwick International Airport on Saturday. Sky News published photographs of Johnson and his wife Carrie Johnson in economy on an overnight flight with British Airways as they flew back from the Caribbean with their children.
The Independent reported that Johnson had been on the trip with his family for a few weeks, and that it was unclear if he is returning because he intends to run for prime minister or because the trip concluded.
The Washington Post reported that the three presumed front-runners for the UK prime minister position are Johnson, former Treasury Secretary Rishi Sunak and Penny Mordaunt, the head of the House of Commons.
Nevertheless, on Sunday, 24 October, the international media reported that Johnson had decided not to seek the position of next Conservative Party leader and therefore the next prime minister. He leaves the way open for former Treasury Secretary Rishi Sunak.
