
The Ministry of Interior & Police ordered businesses in the Santo Domingo North municipality of Villa Mella to stop selling alcohol after midnight. The measure is levied as authorities take actions to reduce violent crime in the district. The sale of alcoholic beverages is now limited from 8am to 12 midnight.
The Ministry of Interior & Police issued Resolution MIP-RR-0006-2022 with the new alcoholic beverage sales hours. The resolution states that businesses found in violation could be temporarily closed or their license to operate revoked. Immediately, entertainment businesses complained, but many residents in the area feel the action will help restore tranquility to the northern Santo Domingo district.
The Ministry of Interior & Police took actions after a week ago the Vietnam sector of Villa Mella mourned by the death of three people in a grocery store. Five others were wounded in a shooting that practically sent everyone to remain behind closed doors in Villa Mella.
Interior and Police Minister Jesús Vásquez Martínez was in the area on Sunday, 23 October 2022 to announce the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategy for Citizen Security “My Safe Country” in the municipality, and to participate in the Citizen Security Round Table at the district City Hall.
