La Altagracia Transit judge Gregorio Torres Spencer ordered a year of preventive custody to Franklin Nin Perez, the driver of the Suero Servi Bus that slid to its side killing five tourists on 6 October 2022. The ruling was issued on 19 October 2022, after several postponements.
The fatal accident occurred when the driver took a curve at the Bulevar Turistico del Este in the area Bavaro when on the way with a bus full of South American tourists to a boat excursion in Saona Island. Most of the 51 tourists on board were injured board and five died because of severe injuries – four Argentineans and one Peruvian.
State prosecutors accuse the driver of speeding, not reducing speed when taking the curve and driving under the effects of cocaine.
