
A Dominican soldier seriously injured a Haitian causing the shutdown of the border point in Pedernales, the most southern border gate. The Haitian was taken to the public hospital. Preliminary reports is that the Haitian would have confronted the soldier with a knife.
The case is under investigation. A preliminary version from the Specialized Border Security (Cesfront) indicates that the Haitian national, Francique Genio threatened a Dominican citizen, identified as Bernardo Batista Matos, with a knife. Batista Matos works in the municipal market of Pedernales. “At that moment the officer intervened and called for the foreigner to leave,” reads the Cesfront press release. As reported, Francique Genio attacked the Dominican with the knife and the soldier fired a shot that injured the Haitian in the neck.
The wounded man was immediately taken to the hospital Dr. Elio Fiallo.
