Download the questions; get ready for the 10th National Census

The 10th National Population and Housing Census is set for 10 to 23 November 2022 nationwide. The general director of the National Statistics Office (ONE), Miosotis Rivas is making media rounds to encourage Dominicans to participate in the data collecting exercise. She said she will be polling President Luis Abinader at his residence on 10 November.

The census had been programmed for 2020, but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The census collects information on number of people living in the household, their gender, age, and on housing, including location and construction materials. It is a snapshot at the time the data is collected. The data can then be compared over time.

In an interview with Listin Diario, Rivas Peña asked for the greatest collaboration of household members. The pollsters expect to cover at least 95% of all household, and will be reaching people that live in the most remote areas of the country. Some 35,000 pollsters will comb the country to collect information in 4.5 million homes nationwide.

She explained that pollsters will be identified by a blue ONE cap, a vest and will have a card with a QR code that when scanned provides their name and identity. To double check, people can all call *462.

Rivas Peña explained that the census takers do not have to enter the house if the owner does not want to invite them in. They can remain outside as the household representative answers questions on the ballot. The information collected will then be transmitted to the pollster’s supervisor who will then enter the information in the database.

Information gatherers are paid RD$17,000 and the supervisors RD$25,000, plus a daily per diem of RD$400 per day. The pollsters are scheduled to collect data for 12 homes a day.

The 2022 Census ballot is downloadable on the ONE website. People can actually fill it out and hand it to the census taker to assist the person in filling out the information.

The census data collector needs to meet the person who resides in the household permanently. The pollster may have to return several times to coincide with an adequate household representative.
