
Minister of Interior and Police Jesus (Chu) Vasquez, and the head of the Police, Major General Eduardo Then promise to tackle the cases of missing people. The effort also has received the support of Santo Domingo senator Faride Raful and Deputy Orlando Jorge Villegas, both elected for the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) for the National District. Raful is campaigning for the installation of cameras on the Malecón, saying it is a prime location for people committing suicide and those dropping corpses off to sea.
After families protested outside the Presidential Palace, Deputy Orlando Jorge Villegas secured a meeting with Minister of Interior & Police Jesus (Chu) Vasquez and relatives of missing Jesus Cuevas (30 years old), Alexander Sang (18 years old), Roberto Mentor (74 years) and Marino Agramonte (20). Relatives of 126 missing persons have gotten together to press their plight to the authorities.
Deputy Jorge Villegas has developed a bill that seeks to create the search protocol for missing persons. At present, family members say they are sent from department to department without success in their plight. The parents say that they have gathered tips and passed these on to the Police that has not responded.
TV host Mariasela Alvarez presented the plight of the missing people on her televised Esta Noche con Mariasela round table on 25 October 2022.
There is a Department of Missing Persons at the Central Investigation Agency (Dicrim) of the National Police. But the bad news is that the Dicrim only has 10 investigators for the entire country.
Most of the missing people are young people and male.
The parents say that they have gathered tips and passed these on to the Police that has not responded and thus their campaign to raise national awareness and call for more help from the government.
