70-year old woman, Deisy Hernandez was let off easy after the San Cristobal court decided self-kidnapping is not considered in the Dominican Penal Code. The woman and two accomplices, Yorvy Soto, and Roberto de Jesús Reyes, were arrested on the Duarte highway, following a complaint of kidnapping on 20 October 2022 placed by Hernández’s daughter. Later the authorities discovered the 70-year old had plotted her own kidnapping.
The threesome were pulled over on the Villa Altagracia Duarte Highway road stretch when they were making their way to Santo Domingo. A police bodycam video captured the moment the septuagenarian was “rescued” before the authorities discovered she had plotted her own abduction to scam her own daughter out of RD$2 million to help one of the men pay a debt.
