New Education Minister Angel Hernandez says that according to a preliminary administrative probe most of the 728 public schools under construction will not be able to be completed in years because of legal problems dating back years. Angel Hernandez was appointed to the position in August 2022.
The public schools with legal problems were begun during the Danilo Medina administration (2012-2020). Of the 728 public schools under construction, the Ministry of Education now under Hernandez says only 126 are in final completion phases.
Hernandez warned that the legal entanglements prevent the completion of most of the 728 schools. He said the matters are complex and doubted the issues would be resolved in the next few years.
He indicated that this situation considerably affects the student community due to the lack of classrooms and the growing enrollment.
Hernández mentioned the case when participating in the opening of the “XII Ibero-American Congress on University Teaching (CIDU), sponsored by the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), in alliance with the Ibero-American Association of University Teaching (AIDU) and the Salomé Ureña Teacher Training Institute (ISFODOSU).
The international initiative provides a space for developing a reflective and scientific knowledge of the teaching practice.
This year’s congress assessed the different models of implementation of academic careers, their management and viability in the Ibero-American context to propose alternatives and contribute to the improvement of teaching and the welfare of professors.
