Sports writer Nathanael Pérez Neró of Diario Libre reports on how National District fans have been tuning in to the YouTube channel of the National District basketball championship even more than Dominican winter championship baseball fans. Both the basketball and baseball games are transmitted on TV.
The basketball season this year is coinciding with the baseball championship, but the attendance at the Palacio de Deportes and the online viewing indicates basketball has a strong following.
Contributing to keeping the interest in basketball strong are the consecutive FIBA Windows played for Dominican fans, the participation of three Dominicans in the US NBA, the many local tournaments and exposure on social networks and YouTube channels.
The National Basketball team goes against Argentina on Thursday, 10 November at the Palacio de Deportes. It then goes against Venezuela on 13 November, as the team seeks to win a slot to continue playing in the Americas Cup.
The National District tournament ended with Bameso defeated the favorite Mauricio Baez.
