On Monday, 31 October 2022, Royal Carnival’s Allure of the Seas made a call to Taino Bay in the city of Puerto Plata. Launched in November 2010, for six years, the Allure of the Seas was the world’s largest cruise ship until sister ship Wonder of the Seas, took the lead. Allure is now ranked 4th largest in the world.
Harold Sanders, manager of Taino Bay, said that 92% of the 5,822 cruise passengers that arrived with the ship are the most since the terminal’s opening in December 2021. He said the arrival proves the capacity of the port to receive this type of vessel.
Sanders said that of the 5,370 passengers who disembarked, 1,612 went on tours, 696 took cabs to different parts of the city, and the remaining 3,162 walked to the historic center, leaving on average a little more than half a million dollars in just one day for Puerto Plata.
Allure of the Seas has a capacity for 9,000 persons on board, including passengers and crew. The ship docked at the Puerto Plata city terminal with 2,087 crew and 5,822 passengers. Allure of the Seas has capacity for up to 6,452 passengers.
Take note that the ship is a self-contained entertainment center with onboard attractions competing with excursions on land. The ship is divided into seven distinct spaces. For instance, its outdoor Boardwalk neighborhood was inspired by Coney Island with shops, a carousel and the outdoor high-diving Aqua Theater. The Foliage-filled Central Park is covered in 12,000 plants and 60 trees.
Deck 14 is regarded as one of the biggest kids’ programs at sea. Deck 15 has a large Sports Area, complete with FlowRider surf simulators, a zipline, mini-golf, ping pong and basketball courts. On board there is an ice rink.
