
If you are planning a night out on the town with drinks included, head for the National District. Neighboring communities in the Santo Domingo province are no longer authorized to serve or sell beverages after midnight. The National District and cities and towns in Santo Domingo province, make up what is known as Greater Santo Domingo. This area has a population of around 3 million in habitants.
The Ministry of Interior & Police has issued Resolution 007/22 that bans the consumption and sale of alcohol in businesses in the province of Santo Domingo as of midnight. The resolution establishes: “The consumption and sale of alcoholic beverages are banned in all commercial establishments from Monday to Sunday from 12 midnight to 8am in the municipalities of Santo Domingo East, Santo Domingo West, Pedro Brand, Boca Chica, Los Alcarrizos, San Antonio de Guerra and other municipalities in the province of Santo Domingo.
The businesses face temporary or definite closing of the business, cancellations of corresponding licenses, and others established in Dominican laws or rulings for violating the resolution.
Resolution 007/22 says that the National Agency for Control of Alcoholic Beverages (COBA), with the backing of the Police is responsible to ensure the fulfillment of the resolution.
As reported, since 21 October the measure had already been in effect for Santo Domingo North. Resolution 007/22 extends it to the rest of the Santo Domingo province. It is not known if the intention is to extend it to the National District, so it covers all of Greater Santo Domingo.
