
The National Energy Commission (CNE) granted permission to EFD Ecoener Fotovoltaica Dominicana S.R.L to install the 50 megawatt photovoltaic solar energy park “Cumayasa I” in the Villa Hermosa municipality of La Romana. The agreement was signed by Edward Veras for CNE and Fernando Rodríguez Alfonso, for the local branch of the Spanish renewables company, Grupo Ecoener SAU. The concession is granted for 25 years.
CNE’s executive director Edward Veras said the progress report of the solar energy project shows construction of the solar park is at 60%.
Renewables account today for around 16% of the energy supply to the National Energy Grid System (SENI). Already, renewables (wind, solar, water and biomass) make up 23.32% of the installed power capacity. The Dominican Republic wants to cover 30% of the national demand with renewable energy by 2030.
