
The International Federation of Basketball (FIBA) explains that seven spots are still available for the Americas region in the World Cup.
The Dominican Republic is getting that last chance to qualify for the FIBA World Cup 2023 when Window 5 is played in Santo Domingo. The Dominican team will play Argentina on Thursday, 10 November at 8pm and Venezuela on Sunday, 13 November at 6pm at the Palacio de los Deportes in the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.
The best six teams of the E and F groups, and the best 7th place among the 12 countries in the qualifier get a ticket to the World Cup.
Window 5 Group E teams are: Canada (8-0), Venezuela (7-1), Argentina (6-2), Dominican Republic (5-3), Panama (2-6), and Bahamas (2-6).
Window 5 Group F teams are: USA (7-1), Brazil (5-3), Mexico (5-3), Uruguay (5-3), Puerto Rico (4-4), and Colombia (3-5).
DR needs to defeat Argentina this weekend. Argentina has already qualified after winning the AmeriCup trophy and is sending a B team with only half of their star players.
Of Argentina and the Dominican Republic, the team that doesn’t finish in the top three spots will still have a chance to punch their ticket as the best fourth-place team.
Dominican players on the team roster are: Jhonatan Araújo, Richard Bautista, Ángel Delgado, Miguel Dicent, Andrés Feliz, Juan Guerrero, Víctor Liz, Rigoberto Mendoza, Jean Montero, Luis Montero, Antonio Peña, Gelvis Solano, Gerardo Suero, Juan Suero, Eloy Vargas.
The next commitment of the Dominican team is against Panama and Argentina on 24 and 27 February 2023.
