“And this gentleman is on a kind of media tour, trending on Twitter supposedly for fabulous and good things he brings,” observed TV journalist Rosa Encarnación. “I am embarrassed that he is so proud he has the backing of the President because he constantly appears next to the President,” commented the Channel 9 8-10am news anchorwoman.
She was referring to José Leonel “Neney” Cabrera who is the head of the Strategic and Special Projects of the Presidency Agency (Propeep), a Presidency of the Republic office, and who since his appointment has been making headlines for major irregularities in the implementation of millionaire projects.
Encarnación observed that the Abinader Administration’s Ethics Department (DIGEIG) indicated that Propeep was not able to explain the purchase and donation of paints for last year’s “Paint your Neighborhood at Christmas” program. She also observed that the government’s Procurement Agency has certified there were irregularities in the process. Encarnación remarked: “He is a suspect, but he is also a happy man.”
Rosa Encarnación and co-anchor Diógenes Pina on the program El Despertador de Noticias SIN on 9 November 2022, emphasized many of the irregularities have been aired to the general public on the El Informe con Alicia Ortega investigative journalism program. Encarnación remarked: “If a person is being questioned, the person should be investigated.”
