
Technological problems were behind the slow start to the 10th National Population and Housing Census. The census is happening from 10 to 23 November 2022.
New this 2022 is that the pollsters are immediately entering the data collected into electronic tablets for transmitting to the central data base. The intention is this way the data will be available at an earlier date for decision-making in the public and private sectors.
The National Statistics Office said 100% of the issues with the e-devices will be resolved by Tuesday, 15 November 2022. As of 3pm on Sunday, 13 November, Victor Romero, 2022 Census director, said that in 26 provinces 93% of the tablets were collecting and transmitting data. He said by Tuesday, 100% of the devices would be ready to collect and send data to the servers.
The provinces with 100% connectivity are Azua, Barahona, Dajabón, Duarte, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Independencia, La Vega, María Trinidad Sánchez, Monseñor Nouel, Monte Cristi, Pedernales, Peravia, San Juan, Santiago Rodríguez and Valverde. Those with 93-99% connectivity are the National District, Bahoruco, Elías Piña, Hermanas Mirabal, La Romana, Monte Plata, Samaná, San José de Ocoa, San Pedro de Macorís and Sánchez Ramírez.
President Luis Arbaje and First Lady Raquel Arbaje were the first to be polled at their households on Thursday, 10 November 2022.
As reported, teams of 35,000 pollsters have the task to collect answers to the 67 questions in the census. The previous census happened in 2010. The 2020 census was postponed due to Covid-19.
