Man dies squashed by falling tree

Preliminary reports are that 38-year old Noelis Gómez was crushed to death when a tree fell on his vehicle. He was driving a Hyundai Santa Fe, around 4:30pm on Calle Santo Tomás de Aquino near the intersection of Wenceslao Alvarez and Juan Sánchez Ramírez streets in the National District. Gómez was said to be an employee of the Ministry of Education who was on the way to pick up his wife, who reportedly works at the National Geographic Institute.

An ambulance was at the site in five minutes, but it took a unit of the Fire Department around 40 minutes to come and cut the tree to release the man from his vehicle. He was not able to survive the wounds suffered and was pronounced dead once removed from the vehicle, as reported in El Dia. His corpse was sent to the National Forensic Institute (Inacif) for the autopsy.
