Fresenius Kabi Med Tech inaugurates its fourth manufacturing plant in Haina

The Dominican Republic continues to expand its production of medical devices. On Tuesday, 15 November 2022, Vice President Raquel Peña attended the inauguration of the fourth Fresenius Kabi MedTech manufacturing facility in Haina, to the west of the National District.

Speaking at the inauguration, Vice President Peña stressed: “We are building the country of the future in the present. You can count on the support of this government and of President Luis Abinader to continue facilitating all investments that generate economic and social development for our beloved Dominican Republic.”

The plants are located in the Itabo Industrial Park (PIISA). The new plant will supply the US market. It incorporates state-of-the-art technology and employs 700 bringing total employees to 4,600.

The state-of-the-art manufacturing will be equipped with automated assembly lines, installations, clean rooms, and laboratories needed to manufacture and develop disposables such as sets for infusion pumps and plasma collection.

Also attending the inauguration were Minister of Industry & Commerce Victor Ito Bisono; Daniel Liranzo, the president of the National Free Zone Trade Council; Samuel Conde, Director of PIISA Industrial Park.

Fresenius Kabi’s senior leadership was represented by Christian Hauer, president of Fresenius Kabi MedTech, Andreas Duenkel, CFO of Fresenius Kabi, Georgi Jekov, Senior Vice President Global Operations at Fresenius Kabi MedTech, Bernardo Alvarez, Vice President Manufacturing Operations Dominican Republic, as well as other corporate and local executives who joined the opening celebration.

A Fresenius Kabi press release describes the new plant as part of “a continuous success story” of the company’s operations in Haina, Dominican Republic. “Global competitiveness is essential to our company and with this extension and increase in production, we are taking a significant next step in supplying the important US market with state-of-the-art medical technologies,” said Andreas Duenkel during the opening ceremonies.

In his welcome speech to the Vice President of the Dominican Republic, Christian Hauer emphasized: “I am very excited to inaugurate the extension of Fresenius Kabi’s MedTech production site in Haina – with a total facility now of almost 58,000 m² (~626,000 sqf). Not only does this mean we can increase production to help meet the demand on medical devices and disposables and thus continue to expand on MedTech but also to create jobs for over 700 people in the Dominican Republic. I would like to take the opportunity to thank all those involved in creating this important milestone.”

Speaking at the inauguration, Industry & Commerce Minister Víctor Bisonó pointed out that the strong commitment that Fresenius Kabi has in the country is contributing to growth, development, research and productive innovation within the healthcare sector.

“This is a company that has special importance in the free zone sector, for being a reference in the manufacture and production of medical devices at a global level. They have worked tirelessly to innovate in the field of medical devices, with the aim of combating diseases being transcendental and forming an important part of what is made in the Dominican Republic,” he said.
