Manny Cruz, singer of many catchy merengue songs, has published a children’s book. The book is for sale at Cuesta Libros and can also be purchased online.
The book carries the name of the capital city and his catchy merengue track, “Santo Domingo.” Cruz says he seeks to bring the song’s story to young children in an educational way.
“This has been one of the most wonderful projects I have been able to undertake,” said Cruz during the book launch. He explained that the book version of his Santo Domingo song is enriched with historical details to enhance children’s cultural knowledge and promote among Dominicans the love for the city, the country and merengue music.
Dominican-Spanish illustrator Taína Almodóvar did the illustrations.
Cruz said he will go on a book tour and visit schools in the country to share the story with children here. During the book tour, his wife, dancer Yeri Peguero will help the children learn to dance merengue.
Manny Cruz has two small children.
