Samana is preparing for record occupancies in 2023

Piñero Group, the largest hotel operator in Samana, and other Samana tourism ventures are bullish on what’s coming for the northeastern peninsula in 2023.

Piñero Group announced the Cayo Levantado Resort on the Samana out island will reopen with 200 rooms in the second quarter of 2023. Its emphasis will be on offering a vacation packed with wellness, close caring for the environment and local culture.

Isabel Piñero, chief sustainability officer for the Spanish hotel chain, made the announcement last 18 November 2022. Currently, Bahía Príncipe Hotels & Resorts, owned by Grupo Piñero, has 14 hotels in Punta Cana, La Romana and Samaná. Piñero spoke of 2023 as a promising year for Samana as a tourist destination. She spoke while hosting the 8th Annual Meeting for the Tourist Development of Samana.

At the event, the president of the National Association of Hotels and Tourism (Asonahores), Rafael Blanco Tejera said that the construction of the Samana Bayport, located in the city of Santa Bárbara is advancing and is in the final phase of obtaining the necessary permits to prepare for the arrival of cruise ships. The tender for the converting of the Arroyo Barril cargo port (built in 1977) into a modern cruise and general cargo port is also advancing.

Juan Bancalari, president of the Association of Hotels and Tourist Enterprises of Samaná (Ahetsa), spoke of the remodeling of the Samaná boardwalk and other ecological tourism projects in Las Galeras and other zones of the province.

“We are very happy with all the investment projects that are coming along to develop this province.” He also mentioned the preparing of young people to work in the industry, with the National Institute of Technical Professional Formation (Infotep) graduating more than 646 students in one year.

At the presentation, Sharon Mei, general manager of Amber Cove Puerto Plata cruise ship terminal urged the public, private and community in Samana to integrate and work together to improve the experience the visitors will have.
