Ten Dominican school girls traveled on Sunday to NASA’s Space Center in Houston, Texas. The children, aged 9 to 15, are participating in the “She is an Astronaut” program, run by the She Is Foundation, of Colombian origin. Tamara Vasquez is the executive director of the program in the Dominican Republic.
The She Is from Colombia Foundation has signed an alliance with the NASA Space Center to impact the lives of girls in Peru, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic and Ecuador who break the paradigms of poverty.
In the Dominican Republic, Vásquez explained that as part of the experience, the children learn about engineering and basic sciences and their minds are opened to the infinite world of opportunities in a career in science.
Five of the Dominican girls were selected from a project for the prevention of early unions implemented by the governmental Supérate Program. The initiative has the support of the Innovation Cabinet of the Presidency, Banreservas Volunteering, Banco de Reservas, Goya, Nosotras, among other companies.
Before traveling to Houston, the children received virtual classes. The students are participating in the academic immersion program developed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) with graduation set for Friday, 9 December 2022.
