DR and China trade exceeds 4 billion

The counselor and chargé d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy in the Dominican Republic, Zhou Yuqi announced that bilateral trade between the Dominican Republic and the People’s Republic of China has exceeded US$4 billion this year. After a courtesy visit to President Luis Abinader at the Presidential Palace, she explained that trade is up for a second consecutive year.

Yuqi spoke of projects the Chinese government is backing in the Dominican Republic. She mentioned that Chinese experts in agriculture are in Bonao working with the Ministry of Agriculture to develop projects of rice and vegetable harvests.

The diplomat said 2023 is the fifth anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Dominican Republic and China. She said the government of China seeks to take this anniversary as a juncture to further deepen the friendly ties between the two nations.

The counselor and chargé d’affaires of China reiterated the Chinese government’s position to respect the Dominican Republic’s sovereignty regarding its migratory policies. She assured that her government is willing to collaborate with the international community to support Haiti, a country where the multidimensional crisis has escalated since last year.
