
The 56th Meeting of Heads of State and Government of the member countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA) opens Tuesday, 7 December 2022 in Santiago de los Caballeros with a first gathering of ministers of foreign relations, the 88th Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of SICA.
The meetings are networking events for the regional presidents, foreign ministers and heads of delegation of the eight member countries of SICA. They also serve as spaces to discuss important issues of the regional agenda and the institutional framework of the regional bloc.
The Central American Integration System (SICA) is the institutional framework of Regional Integration in Central America, created by the states of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama. Subsequently, Belize and Dominican Republic joined as a full members.
The Ministry of the Presidency has not confirmed the names of heads of government that will be attending.
The event is held here given that the Dominican Republic holds the Pro Tempore Presidency of the SICA.
Following the meeting of the foreign relations ministers, the heads of government are scheduled to meet on Friday, 9 December 2022 in Santiago. The opening ceremony will be held at the Gran Teatro del Cibao. On the same Friday, President Luis Abinader will host a working breakfast to kickstart the event.
The 56th Ordinary Meeting of Heads of State and Government of SICA member countries will begin at 10 am at the UTESA University Convention and Culture Center. After the meeting concludes at the same place, President Abinader will host the lunch.
The official photograph of the meeting will be taken at the Monument of the Heroes of the Restoration.
The media reports the Dominican Republic will present the impact of the Haitian crisis in the Dominican Republic.
Parallel to SICA bloc activities, the Abinader administration has been active promoting the Alliance for Development in Democracy, with the participation of Panama, Costa Rica and Ecuador.
