President Luis Abinader enacted Law 365-22 that merges the Dominican Public Electricity Corporation (CDEE) and the Rural and Sub-urban Electrification Unit (UERSS) into one entity. The same law creates the Punta Catalina Electricity Generating Company (Empresa Generadora de Electricidad Punta Catalina – EGEPC) for the operation of the Punta Catalina coal-fired 720 MW generation plant.
