The Weather Office (Onamet) forecasts late evening and early morning lows of 19-21 degrees Celsius for this week in Santo Domingo, Santiago, Puerto Plata, La Romana, San Pedro de Macoris and La Altagracia (Punta Cana).
As reported in Diario Libre, weather forecaster Henry Agramonte says that the low temperatures are due to a rare weather phenomenon. The chilly winds felt on the island are due to a developing storm system in Atlantic Ocean waters, north of the Dominican Republic. The low pressure area could become an off-season hurricane.
The US National Hurricane Center forecasters are following the large non-tropical area of 980 MB low pressure located over the central subtropical Atlantic about 850 miles east-southeast of Bermuda, near 29N51W.
