US Senate reaffirms close ties with the DR

The Foreign Relations Committee of the US Senate issued a note reaffirming close ties between the US and the Dominican Republic.

US Senators Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, joined by Senators Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Ben Cardin (D-Md.), and Bill Cassidy (R-La.) applauded the Foreign Relations Committee passage of the resolution that reaffirms the importance of the partnership between the governments of the United States and the Dominican Republic. The bipartisan resolution recognizes the enduring diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties that bind the two nations and calls for furthering relations to advance mutual prosperity and security interests.

“Today we are celebrating an enduring partnership between the US and the Dominican Republic, a friendship rooted in shared values and interests,” said Chairman Menendez.

“As we work to promote democracy, security, and prosperity in the Dominican Republic and throughout the entire Western Hemisphere, I look forward to continue working with the vibrant Dominican-American diaspora communities in New Jersey and across the United States who are equally committed to advancing the welfare of individuals across the region,” said Menendez.

“The Dominican Republic is an important US partner in the Caribbean region, an emerging democracy that continues to benefit from international support, and a key country as we consider how best to help Haiti in its current crisis,” said Senator Cardin. “Today’s action in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee honors this relationship and the long-term ties between our nations,” he stated.

Exactly a year ago, on 7 December 2021, the US Senate had issued a similar statement.
