Jetair Caribbean announces that as of 16 March 2023 it is suspending flights to Santo Domingo from Curacao. The airline had operated the route for two years.
The company announced it would not continue the CUR-SDQ-CUR route because of the limited demand and excessive airlane seat supply. The new low cost Dominican airline Arajet is serving the route with fares starting at around US$170 one way.
The airline says that the visa requirements and the limited number of visas approved for Dominican citizens limits tourism to the island. Likewise, the airline says that fares are high because of the many charges and taxes levied for the use of the Las Americas International Airport. The seasonality of the route and the high fuel prices are other factors behind the corporate decision.
Passengers who have already booked with the airline for flights after 9 March 2023 will be contacted by Jetair for alternate travel arrangements.
