San Diego Padres’ star player, Juan Soto is joining the Licey Tigers as the second phase of the Dominican Winter Professional Baseball Championship continues this December 2022. Several Major League Baseball players have been joining their teams to ensure these get to the finals. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., of the Toronto Blue Jays joined the Estrellas Orientales to ensure these made the four-team cut.
The 50-game regular season has just ended with the four teams that move on to the round-robin: Tigres del Licey, Aguilas Cibaeñas, Gigantes del Cibao and Estrellas Orientales.
The final standing of the six teams playing in the regular season was: Tigres del Licey (34-16); Aguilas Cibaeñas (32-18) at two games; Gigantes del Cibao (25-25) at nine games; Estrellas Orientales (23-27) at 11 and Toros del Este and Leones del Escogido with 18-22 at 16 from first place and five from fourth place and four from playing the mini-playoff.
The games resume with Estrellas playing Licey starting 7:15pm Monday, 19 December in Santo Domingo. In Santiago, starting at 7:30pm of the same day, Gigantes will play the Aguilas.
On Tuesday, 20 December, the Tigres del Licey will visit San Francisco de Macoris and play the Gigantes and the Aguilas will travel to San Pedro de Macoris and play the Estrellas. The round-robin continues until 22 December 2022. Teams take a break for Christmas and play resumed on 27 December. New Year’s Eve (31 December) and New Year’s Day (1 January) will be off. Tickets are available at the stadiums or online.
The round-robin continues through Friday, 13 January 2023, if necessary. It will conclude before that date if the first two places are defined.
