COE: Safe Christmas operation

The Emergency Operations Center (COE) and the Ministry of Defense announced the first phase of the Safe Holidays operation begins on Friday, 23 December 2022 at 2pm. The Christmas safety operation will end on Sunday, 25 December at 6pm.

The second phase of the Safe Holidays, this time a prevention effort for the New Year holiday, kicks off on Friday, 30 December 2022 at 2pm and ends on Saturday, 1 January 2023 at 6pm.

As reported by the COE, the operation seeks to prevent food and alcohol intoxication and traffic accidents during the celebration of the Christmas holidays.

The population will have the support of the civil protection agencies during their travel on the main roads and highways of the country. Likewise, the agency will activate the Regional Command and Control Centers and Provincial Emergency Committees, which will be responsible for preventive and response actions in their areas of influence.

COE reports 44, 321 people will be deployed nationwide on roads and key points to boost safety and offer rescue operations as needed.

COE reports 1,243 assistance posts have been set up at points where in previous operations a greater number of incidents have happened.

In addition, 197 ambulances, five vehicle extraction trucks, 71 vehicle rescue units, 19 mobile workshops and three helicopters are being distributed nationwide to strategic points.
