The Ministry of Foreign Relations says Minister Roberto Álvarez will travel to New York City to participate in a meeting of the United Nations Security Council to follow up on Resolution 2645 that extends the permanence of the United Nations Integrated Office (BINUH) in Haiti and orders the body to meet every 90 days to issue updates on the situation in Haiti.
During his participation in the meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 21 December 2022, Minister Alvarez will be accompanied by the Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic to the UN, Jose Blanco.
The Ministry of Foreign Relations says that as a follow up, the Minister will once again express the Dominican Republic’s support for the proposal made by the Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, in the sense that while aid for the training of Haitian police is being consolidated, a robust force is needed, capable of recovering peace and putting an end to the violence unleashed by armed gangs, infiltrated by political and economic power.
The Ministry of Foreign Relations says that Foreign Minister Alvarez will again call attention to the serious humanitarian and insecurity situation in Haiti that is keeping a large part of the population without access to basic services such as health, food and education.
