The family of Robert Fulcar is threatening to take to justice for defamation the persons it says are spreading fake news on the former Minister of Education. Fulcar himself has not been available to answer to the press for weeks.
The former president of the Chamber of Accounts, Maximo Castillo Salas has given statements to Somos Pueblo TV and Las Exclusivas de Jose Peguero that trustworthy sources have lead him to believe that Furcal has been declaring to the US justice.
Julio Furcal, brother of the former minister of Education, is the spokesman for the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) in the Chamber of Deputies. Recently, Jose Ignacio Paliza and Carolina Mejia, president and secretary general of the PRM announced their support to Furcal.
Julio Furcal called the statements fake news and insists his brother is in the United States only for health reasons.
After two years as minister of Education, Furcal was finally removed from the position in August 2022. All throughout this term he was criticized for corruption in contracting and hiring.
Previous to his appointment as minister of Education in August 2020, Furcal had been the presidential campaign manager for President Luis Abinader.
During the Covid-19 pandemic days, Furcal dedicated the lion share of the Ministry of Education budget to contracting online content and kept private and public schools closed for long months until Vice President Raquel Peña ordered schools to open. The new minister of Education Angel Hernandez is backtracking several of the contracting by his predecessor.
Journalist Altagracia Salazar says that the former minister is treated for ulcerative colitis, a chronic disease of the large intestine, in which the lining of the colon becomes inflamed and develops tiny open sores, or ulcers.
