
The National Statistics Office (ONE) is gradually releasing the recent findings of the Enhogar 2022 poll.
A majority of residents in the Dominican Republic mention that crime is the main problem affecting the country. The nationwide perception on rising crime is 66.4%, but this increases to 76.9% in Santo Domingo province.
According to the ONE’s Enhogar poll, the cost of living (54.1%), unemployment (27.4%), and insecurity (23.3%) are other leading pressing concerns.
The study reveals that 73.9% of those in the highest income segment of the population ranked crime as the leading concern, and insecurity is listed by36.8% as among the main problems affecting the country.
For those in the lowest socio-economic group, 57.7% mention crime. 53.5% cite the cost of living as a more pressing concern.
64.5% of the population aged 15 years and over say they avoid going out at night for fear of delinquency and crime, with 69.3% of women preferring to stay home to keep safe, and 58.9% of men.
48.8% of the population says they avoid getting around with cash, 38.7% say they wearing jewelry for fear of being victims of delinquency and crime.
