Enhogar survey: Dominicans are well connected society

81.2% of those living in the Dominican Republic aged 10 years and older have a smart cell phone, according to findings of the National Statistics Office’s 2022 EnHogar 2022 survey. Of these 79.9% are males and 82.4% are females.

The ONE survey says that there is a television in 76.6% of households. 46.1% of households have a connection to the Internet.

The survey indicated that 44.4% of the population listens to radio, 26.1% has an electronic tablet, 26% has a desktop computer and 19% has a landline telephone.

95.2 % of the population aged 10 years and older who used the Internet did so to make or receive calls over the Internet, using WhatsApp, Zoom, Teams or similar.

37.2% said they used the Internet to publish their own content such as texts, images, photos, videos or music in blogs and web pages. 19.9% say they use the Internet to get information from public institutions or to interact with public institutions in general.

According to the poll findings, 22.9 % of the population aged 10 years and over that uses the Internet has been victim of some cybercrime over the past 12 months. The most affected population group was between 10 and 24 years of age, with 27% affected by cybercrime.

The ONE carried out the Enhogar Poll with technical assistance of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime from 18 May to 17 July 2022. A sample of 35,678 households was taken, while the sample of selected dwellings covered a total of 40,243.
