The founder of Puntacana, Frank Rainieri announces the destination is breaking records in arrivals and international flights this year.
A record of 574 international flights landed last week at the Punta Cana International Airport, up from a previous record of 534 in 2018. Rainieri forecasts total tourist arrivals for 2022 will surpass eight million tourists, a new record.
Rainieri understands that tourism has been consolidated in the Dominican Republic, thanks to the fact that all public and private sectors, but especially the people, have understood the importance of this sector and “are protecting it together.”
He hopes that by 2023, the country will be able to maintain the pace of investments in tourism, with new hotels, restaurants and theme parks scheduled to open with many others underway.
Rainieri called for the construction of a municipal public hospital in Verón, Punta Cana and that the later be completed by the year’s end. Another priority work sought for the booming area is the aqueduct.
Rainieri also calls for the opening of a National Institute of Technical Professional Training (Infotep) in Veron, Punta Cana. Veron is the area where the largest concentration of people working in the tourism sector live.
Rainieri callsfor the construction of several avenues for better traffic flow.
Rainieri spoke when participating in a tribute to Ted Kheel, the American lawyer behind the development of Punta Cana as a world class tourism destination. The sculpture to Kheel is located at the islet of the avenue that carries his name, next to Blue Mall Punta Cana.
Kheel was a prominent lawyer, renowned US businessman, investor and founding partner of the Puntacana Group. He was a pioneer in foreign investment in the unknown area of Yauya, today called Punta Cana. Kheel would employ young Frank Rainieri who championed his vision and took the project to a new level, creating the Punta Cana destination.
