As of December 2022, the Ministry of Labor, in accordance with recently passed legislation, has begun the registration of persons employed as domestic help. In Spanish these persons are called “servicio” and will enter the formal labor market.
The bureaucratic process of registering household help began in December 2022 and consists of three steps. The first is to go to the webpage of the Ministry of Labor (mt.gob.do) for the digital application. Or the physical documents needed can be taken to the Ministry in the Feria (Centro de los Heroes), on Enrique Jimenez Moya #5.
Proper identification of the employer and the employee are needed. And the first thing that the employer has to do with his “ally” is to establish the conditions of the employment: hours, tasks, rest periods, salary and paydays. The Ministry provides a model contract and a referral letter that can be downloaded from the website.
Minimum wage for domestic service is RD$419.63 per day or RD$52.45 per hour. Everything can be done online. There are four important points that must be covered:
