Late last week the representatives of the National Association of Private Clinics (Andeclip) walked out of meetings with the National Social Security Council (CNSS) over issues in their treatment by the local HMO, which are called “Health Risk Administrators” (ARS). In an impromptu press conference, the spokesman for the association that groups private clinics in the Dominican Republic told reporters that Andeclip sides with the doctors association (CMCD) that also is demanding better pay and more conditions from the ARS.
The main issue is that the clinics are asking for a 25% increase in payment for such things as lab work for patients. The ARS offered just 6%. As things stand now, many more meeting are to be held.
The CMD demands increased pay for its members. Patients are already asked to pay a difference that is more than what the insurance covers. Superintendent of Health and Labor Risks, Jesus Feris Iglesias, speaking for the government in the negotiations, says the system can only pay RD$500 per consultation.
The CMD representatives for physicians did not attend the meeting, stating there was no room for them in the chosen hall.
