Public Health finds three new cases of cholera

Officials from the Ministry of Public Health have announced that laboratory reports show that three more persons have tested positive for cholera in Greater Santo Domingo. In Haiti, hundreds have died of the recent cholera outbreak. Two of these three recent cases are said to be Haitian citizens — a 93-year-old woman and a 4-year old child. Both live in San Carlos in the National District.

The third recent confirmed case is that of a 55-year old Dominican woman who lives in La Zurza, also in the National District. This is the barrio where the first cases were found a few weeks ago, and fortunately, these persons recovered.

The report from the Ministry of Public Health also states that the patients presented the typical symptoms, they were admitted, and are now steadily improving. None of the family members have shown signs of the disease, and the authorities closely monitor the population in these sectors.
