Edesur lights up west end of the Santo Domingo Malecón

Edesur Dominicana, the power utility operating in the National District, announced efforts continue to improve the lighting on the Santo Domingo Malecon. Edesur is now installing new light posts and lighting in general from Av. Abraham Lincoln to the Club Libanés sector on the sea-bordering boulevard-highway.

Milton Morrison, director of Edesur, said the lighting of the 30 de Mayo extension of the Malecon responds to the Abinader administration interest in improving safety for the communities located alongside the road.

Morrison highlighted in a press release the importance of lighting on the Santo Domingo Malecon, the 14 km boulevard that runs alongside the south coast of the capital city.

The fourth phase of illumination of the Malecon covers a stretch of almost two kilometers and calls for the installation of 130 lights to enhance the area at night and safety for thousands of drivers and hundreds of people who commute along 30 de Mayo Highway.

Morrison said the brigades of Edesur Dominicana are making good progress in installing 54 electricity poles and placing the necessary wiring to ensure the lighting through LED lamps, an initiative that Edesur has been developing to also contribute to the protection of the environment.

So far, the power utility has placed more than 300 LED lights and 125 new concrete light poles in almost nine kilometers of the 30 de Mayo highway, not counting those that are contemplated in the fourth phase.

The first stage of lighting of the 30 de Mayo highway included the stretch from the Luperón Avenue overpass to the toll booth at kilometer 12; while the second stage, from the Luperón Avenue overpass to Núñez de Cáceres Avenue.

In the case of the third stage, the works were extended to the Club Libanes and also included the food trucks area, which has become a space for recreation and a boost for business.
