Chinese New Year celebration in Santo Domingo

The Popular Republic of China Embassy in the Dominican Republic with the backing of Santo Domingo mayor Carolina Mejía invites the general public to celebrate the Chinese New Year on Saturday, 28 January 2023. A myriad of activities is planned from 4pm at the chosen location in the Centro de los Héroes government offices sector near the headquarters of the National District government. The Fundacion Jade Pro-Comunidad China is organizing the event.

The organizers say the activities include the traditional ceremony of the symbolic baptism of lions, the dragon dance, folkloric dances, parades of typical Chinese costumes, kung-fu, art bazaar, arts and crafts sales, technology goods sales, and fireworks show, among others.

The Chinese New Year begins on 22 January 2023 and ushers in the Year of the Rabbit. The holiday is one of the biggest celebrations across Asia and the Asian diaspora and represents new beginnings and the renewal of good health, happiness, and fortune.
