President Luis Abinader has called the National Congress back to work to finish legislation proposals in process. He also said the Presidency could introduce new bills. The announcement is in Decree 3-23 issued on Thursday, 12 January 2023. The decree calls for the extra session to last until 15 February, just days before the President renders his state-of-the-nation address to the National Assembly on 27 February (Dominican Independence Day).
Among the legislative packages that the President wants finished are the bills regarding government purchases and contracts, the administration and disposition of seized or abandoned assets related to criminal processes, that on public trusts and the complete protection of women, and the aviation bill. The regular session of Congress began last 16 August and ended on 12 January 2023.
