Congress passed the bill that gives the Central Electoral Board (JCE) the order to digitize the Civil Registry in the Dominican Republic fully. The bill approves the use of digital signatures.
The bill has 220 articles and will govern the actions of the Civil Registry, replacing Law 659 dated 17 July 17 1944.
The recently passed bill enables the full automated processing of civil registry documents and calls for integrating these into a single database under the jurisdiction of the JCE.
The law creates the National Civil Registry System and connects it with entities such as Foreign Affairs, Public Health, Interior and Police, National Statistics Office and the Public Ministry, which will act as collaborators and must provide the governing body with the information on the registry that may be required.
The digitizing of the civil registry is already well advanced.
