
It is that time of the year again when the humpback whales return to the Samana Bay for mating and birthing. Whale-watching is a privileged experience available in Samana from 15 January to 31 March. Access to whale-watching is highly regulated and visitors should always be aware of the regulations. There are highly qualified guides and tours in the town of Samana, and the effort to go and see these mammals is fully rewarded. The “season” lasts runs through the end of March.
Humpback whales attract tourists to the north coast each year from 15 January to 31 March with their dancing and leaping as they migrate from the North Atlantic, Greenland, the United States, Canada, Iceland and Stellwagen’s Sister Sanctuary in Massachusetts to mate in the warm Caribbean waters.
