If the Tigres del Licey defeats the Estrellas Orientales on Wednesday, 18 January 2023, the team will have clinched its 23rd championship, making it the Dominican Professional Winter Baseball League team to have won the most titles. A win on Tuesday, 17 January, placed the team just one game short of winning the seven-game finals.
Colombian Jorge Alfaro batted the home run that drove in two runs against the Estrellas Orientales. Brooks Hall pitched the game that ended 3-1 and delivered the win to the Tigres del Licey in the game played at the Tetelo Vargas ballpark in San Pedro de Macoris.
The Licey will now be playing to a packed house ballpark starting at 7:30pm at its home stadium, the Quisqueya Ball Park in Santo Domingo
The Licey is ahead 3-1 in the 7-4 series in which the first to win four games takes the pennant.
The Licey is tied at 22 with the Aguilas Cibaeñas as the team that have won the most Dominican Winter Professional Baseball championships. Nevertheless, it had not clinched a title since 2017.
